UK Tarot Conference 2013 – London

UK Tarot Conference 11/12th October 2013
Sponsored by Horoscope Magazine

To honour our 10th anniversary, where better to start our weekend than the London Eye. The London Eye is a giant Ferris wheel situated on the banks of the River Thames. The entire structure is 135 metres tall and the wheel has a diameter of 120 metres, I think that is big enough to make a Wheel of Fortune statement!
On the afternoon of the 10th October, 22 tarot lovers will embark on an amazing journey, in a private pod on the Eye you will see miles of London landscape, steeped in history, a City of hidden secrets, legend and occult knowledge.
After our 45 minute journey on the Eye, our guide Geraldine Beskin, will guide us on foot towards Bloomsbury, with a tour of places where tarot luminaries worked, lived, studied and taught hidden knowledge. With a stop for refreshments, on our way, we will finish our tour at Atlantis bookshop for a private party. A chance to mingle, eat drink and be merry. For Tomorrow our 10th UK Tarot Conference journey truly begins! (Time to be confirmed) This is SOLD OUT

Friday 11th October 2013

Afternoon: 2.00 – 3.30p.m. Chloe McCracken – Combining Forces: Lenormand & Tarot Together - How are tarot and Lenormand readings different, and how are they the same? With tarot cards, the image comes first, with keywords and other understandings being secondary. With Lenormand we think about words and sentence structure, building an interpretation piece by piece – the image is secondary, if used at all. And yet both are forms of divination using cards, both tap into our intuition. In this interactive workshop we’ll explore different ways of using ideas and techniques from one system with the other, as well as various spreads for combining the power of both Tarot and Lenormand in a single reading.

Evening: 6p.m. Carrie Paris – Becoming a Card Curator - When was the last time you felt all-seeing while observing a tarot card? Not your typical tarot experience, yet one that makes itself available in every tarot reading. In this talk we will learn a technique for viewing imagery that the Greeks called, seeing with different eyes. This effective method adopts the eye of the artist and utilizes four distinct levels of symbolic understanding; with each level bringing the viewer closer to infinite vision. Ultimately it offers diviners the opportunity to activate their sacred gaze and give accurate, and quite possibly, all-seeing readings. Are you ready to see with different eyes? Bring your favourite deck to this talk and be prepared to regard it in a whole new light.

Lyn Olds – If We Could Ask: A Short Journey through Tarot’s history via Letters to the Past – In 2011, 22 well-known tarot contemporaries from around the world were invited to take part in the Letters to the Past tarot project which entailed penning a letter to an historical person, posing a tarot related question. If We Could Ask: A Short Journey through Tarot’s History in Letters to the Past, is a selection of these 22 letters that together neatly highlight key milestones in tarots 600 year history. The journey takes us from 15th century Northern Italy, via Paris in the 16/1700s to 20th century England. Along the way we encounter some of tarot’s elite, including; Bonifacio Bembo, Jaques Viéville, Court de Gébelin, Arthur Edward Waite, Freida Harris and Madeline Montalban.

8.15 – 10.00p.m. Before our evening gathering of drinks, food, auction of rare tarot paraphernalia and chat Kim Arnold will give a brief talk on the 10th Anniversary Wheel of Fortune Project and this will be your chance to see the original work.

Saturday 12th October 2013
9.30 a.m. Welcome by Kim followed by Carrie Paris – Join the Lenormand Revolution!
Many in the tarot community are being swept up by a 200 year old French card divination system known as Lenormand, which was named after Marie Anne Adelaide Lenormand (1772–1843), a French professional fortune-teller of considerable fame during the Napoleonic era. In this gathering we will mix established and non-traditional techniques for divining with a Lenormand deck by learning card identification, definition and combining. We will then apply this knowledge to three, five, nine and the ultimate, thirty-six-card spread known as a Grand Tableau. By the end of this class you will have enough knowledge to give Lenormand readings. Don’t miss the revolution!

Caitlin Matthews – Tarot & Ancient Cartomancy Skills - Many of the older ways of reading cards, such as touching cards, counting and tableau, have been lost to modern taromancers. Caitlín reintroduces us to some of these techniques as a means of refreshing and supplementing our own tarot skills and going beyond ‘spread-consciousness.’

Lunch break with optional workshops with Alison and Ina and a chance to join John Matthews at his table for a look at his new decks and what inspired him!

Alison Cross – Make more of the Court Cards! An insight in to the Court cards, where not only will you will learn a clutch of spreads where the focus is on working with the Court Cards, but also gain confidence in interpreting these 16 characters.
Ina Cüsters-van Bergen – The Three Secrets that the successful Tarotists want to know, when they want to become the Magician in their own lives. Learn how to use the powers of the Tarot cards, to find the hidden treasures of the Tarot, to induce positive changes in your life, and to intensify the contact with your Inner Wisdom.

Lyn Olds – Three Card DRAW - One of the most appealing features of tarot is how the cards interact with each other to offer up an infinite number of meanings. And just when you thought 78 cards was enough to achieve this, an opportunity comes along to suggest there might be room for one more! In Three Card DRAW, you’ll get creative, ‘playing’ with the illustrations before you in order to create something new and unique. This is a fun, hands on workshop where you will discover an exciting new way to work with the imagery in your deck and how this concept can be put to good use in readings both for yourself and with clients. Oh, and despite the title, NO artistic ability is required!

Ciro Marchetti - Using a lively multimedia format Ciro will discuss the conceptual approach behind the creation of his various images. He will also cover the historical role and emotive forces behind symbolism and visual communication. For readers, collectors and budding tarot artists alike, the presentation will provide a fascinating behind the scenes insight into the various dynamics that govern the production, printing and publication of tarot decks in today’s environment.

Kim Arnold – Wheel of Fortune Meditation – Inspired by the saying by Robert Jordon “The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again” – Kim will close the 10th anniversary conference with a short but powerful meditation to you on your journey home.

Module 1- Developing Clairvoyance through Psychometry
Most of us know of have heard about using psychometry to tune in to a spirit link using jewellery or keys. This Module we will expand the theory by using psychic handwriting, ribbons and other techniques to enhance your clairvoyant skills

Module 2 – Expanding knowledge through Tarot
The Tarot is and ancient form of divination. During this Module we will work with a deck of Rider Waite Tarot, explore their meanings and do readings using spreads which are of an advanced level. Through the Tarot you will discover who YOU are, your gifts, and weaknesses which we will explore to help you find your true path.

Module 3 – Scrying and ancient forms of developing mediumship
Scrying (also called seeing) is a practice that involves seeing things psychically for purposes of obtaining spiritual visions and sometimes for fortune telling. The most common tools are reflective, translucent, or items such as crystals, stones, glass, mirrors, water, fire, or smoke. Scrying has been used in many cultures as a means of divining the past, present, or future. We will be experiencing these options to enhance your psychic vision.

Module 4 –Meeting your Guides and communicating with Spirit
In addition to Circle work we will use meditation and other techniques to contact our guides.
